Practical Atlas of Tung's Acupuncture - Dr. Henry McCann

Of all the books available. I personally think Dr. Henry McCann's book "The Practical Atlas of Tung's Acupuncture" is the most complete book for anybody wanting to get into Tung's acupuncture. The system is laid out in an easy to read format, easily understandable. Any acupuncturist trained in the West should be familiar with "The Manual of Acupuncture" by Peter Deadman, Dr. McCann's book is the Tung's equivalent of "The Manual of Acupuncture". The points are laid out in an encyclopedic format with information on location, theory, and clinical application. What makes his book unique is that he includes commentary from other Tung's acupuncturists' book and their ideas. In this text, not only do you get McCann's understanding but unique pearls from Dr. Young, Susan Johnson, and Dr. Chuan- Min Wang, another direct disciple under Master Tung, as well as in the newer editions there is commentary from other famous Taiwanese Tung's practitioners.

His book is also as of this post, the most in-depth into the tung's system of palm diagnosis. If you only were going to get one Tung's book, this would be the book that I would recommend.

Tung's acupuncture book recommendations

Tung's acupuncture has increased in popularity tremendously from where it was 10-20 years ago. While before it was unknown and more mysterious. The main person responsible for introducing Tung's acupuncture to the West was Dr. Young, Wei Chieh. Dr. Young was a disciple directly under Master Tung who moved to the US and began to teach his style. Keep in mind there are other disciples of Master Tung who have remained in Taiwan and have also elaborated on the Tung's system and have their own books and resources. A lot of how it is understood in the West comes from Dr. Young. Today, some of the more popular Tung's practitioners who have written books and have material available to easily learn from are, Susan Johnson, Dr. Henry McCann, Dr. Brad Whisnant, Dr. Robert Chu, and many others.

Today there are several resources that you can go to to learn tung's acupuncture. From books to webinars, and lectures around the country. More people are sharing their knowledge than ever before.

Tung's acupuncture is a family system of distal acupuncture that revolves around understanding the channel system of Chinese medicine. Personally, I think it is good to delve deeper into understanding Tung's acupuncture because even if you never use "Tung's" points it opens up different ways to analyze channels and their relationships with one another. While most people look at Tung's as a completely different system, this is not the case. There are several points in Tung's acupuncture that overlap with the regular points, as well as using regular points along with Tung's points.

While an easy way and a very common way to begin using the points is applying them as "extra points" along with your regular treatments. The system in itself is complete and can be applied as its own therapeutic method, using the Tung's idea of acupuncture point application as your base theory.

The following list of Tung's book are books that I enjoy and recommend for anybody who wants to learn more about Tung's acupuncture.
